Foundation Subjects

The topic this term is called:  What remains of the Shang Dynasty?

It is a History/Science based topic.

The Science focuses on Light.

This includes::

  • recognising that light appears to travel in straight lines

  • using the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain that objects are seen because they give out or reflect light into the eye

  • explaining that we see things because light travels from light sources to our eyes or from light sources to objects and then to our eyes

  • using the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them

It is a topic that works really well in a practical way and so children will develop investigation skills and how to record results.

In History the children will learn about the Shang Dynasty in China.

This includes:

  • comparing modern and ancient China

  • learning about the Yangtze River

  • knowing about Lady Fu Hao

  • understanding how artefacts help us learn about the past

Here are the knowledge organisers for this term. The knowledge organisers show a brief overview of the topics that we are covering in our science and history lessons this term.
