Reading
Reading is primarily taught through systematic synthetic phonics at Whitwell Primary School. The program we use is Read Write Inc. We have used this program for a number of years, and have recently updated our training so that the whole school staff are able to deliver phonics to the highest standard possible.
Below are some films to give you an understanding of what Read Write Inc is and how it is delivered. You will also find information about how you can best support your children with reading at home.
Recently we have also subscribed to the Oxford Owl Read White Inc e-book library. Your child has login details in their diary and can access this to read the books they have been looking at in class, and also take fun interactive quizzes about their learning. We may from time to time set books for children to look at, especially if they have missed any school due to illness.
