Spellings

Look through this week’s spelling list and PowerPoint talk about the spelling patterns/rules. Find out what any words mean that you are unsure of.

Have a go at this week’s spelling word search.

Use your whiteboard to do look, cover, write, check. Look at one of your spelling words, cover it up, write it on your board then check it. Do the same for all of your spellings.

Use 5 of this week’s spellings in sentences of their own. Remember to show off other skills such as questions marks, commas, adjectives. Maybe use a colour to wrote the spelling word in your sentence so it stands out.

Do a spelling test.

English

This week in English we are going to try something different. We are going to be using a video and quiz each day from the BBC followed by some activities on Education City (That I have set in the classwork tab). I have also given an activity sheet that you might want to complete too.

Word Classes Introduction

Use today’s link to the BBC to watch the video that introduces four word classes. Then complete the activity that is at the bottom of this page. There are no Education City games set for today.

Nouns

Use today’s link to the BBC to watch the video on nouns. In today’s resources I have also given you a simple PowerPoint to look through.

On Education City click on the classwork tab to see today’s game that has been set.

It called ‘Water Mission.’

Once you have completed the game your score will be sent to me.

I have also put in today’s resources an activity sheet on nouns. You don’t have to complete this but it’s not hard and is mostly colouring.

Adjectives

Use today’s link to the BBC to watch the video on nouns. In today’s resources I have also given you a simple PowerPoint to look through (it’s one we have used before).

On Education City click on the classwork tab to see today’s games that have been set.

They are called ‘Water Quest’ and ‘Slither River’.

I have also put in today’s resources an activity sheet on nouns. You don’t have to complete this but it’s not hard. The top part is colouring and the bottom part can be made easier by not rewriting the whole sentence, instead just write the adjective you want to include and use an arrow to show where you want it.

I have put a couple of different activities for you to have a go at today. You can do as many or as few as you like.

If you don’t like the look of any of these you could write a recap of the story, draw a few pictures of the main parts with a sentence or two explaining what happened at this point or maybe create a piece of artwork.

LIVE LESSON

Geography

Our Geography for this term is to study our local area.

Look at the maps of Whitwell (or use google maps online). One is in satellite mode which means you can see actual buildings etc the other is in normal map mode. Can you see any places that you recognise? School? A shop? The train station?

Look closely at the names of the streets. You will see that there are many different ending to street names Lane, Street, Drive etc.

Jot down the names of some streets. See how many different endings you can find. I think I can see 10. Can you find that many? Maybe you can see more.

There is also an understanding street names sheet that explains what the different street name endings mean.

LIVE LESSON

 Computing

Today I will show you how to use Purple Mash to send me emails. We will look at how to attach files and what happens when you get an email back form me.

PSHCE

We are going to continue our theme of ‘Being me’

Use the link below to visit the Mr Men and Little Miss channel on YouTube. Each of the characters is special in their very own way. Watch some of the videos to remind yourself of who the characters are. I have also put a link to a website with lots of games and information about the characters.

After you have spent some time exploring the YouTube channel and the website, think about yourself, if you were a Mr Men or Little Miss character who would you be? Create your own character. You could draw yourself in the style of Mr Men and Little Miss characters. You could do it on paper or on a computer. You could even use Purple Mash 2Paint if you want.
