Summer Term 1 Topic
Science
This term the topic focus is changing materials. As scientists the children will investigate materials and how they can be changed this will build on their previous topic of naming materials and identifying their properties.
- The children will learn how to change an object by investigating whether they can squash, bend, stretch or twist it.
- They will learn about whether materials are elastic, flexible, stiff or rigid.
- They will discuss what properties the materials have and what makes them fit for different purposes.
History
As historians we will learn about the history of our village!
- The children will walk around Whitwell and look at the historical features.
- They will compare Whitwell in the past to present by looking at photographs.
- The children will talk about the famous poet from Whitwell called William Streets.
- They will learn about changes that have happened beyond living memory and within living memory.
Art
As artists the children will study Henri Rousseau.
- They will learn about the life of Henri Rousseau and look at his famous paintings.
- They will paint plants in the style of Henri Rousseau.
- They will understand the meaning of Henri Rousseau's genre portrait-landscape.
- The children will design an animal mask in the style of Rousseau.
- They will use their imagination to paint their own pieces of art.
Computing
The children will be learning about questioning on Purple Mash. They will learn to create binary trees and use databases to find out information.
PSHE
The topic is called being my best.
- They will discuss choices that they make during their day and how they can make choices and others make choices for them also.
- They will learn about keeping clean and healthy focusing on healthy teeth.
- They will learn about the parts of the human body and their functions.
Music
The topic this half term will continue to focus on recognising and exploring musical mood through the use of songs and instruments.
