Spring Term 1 Topic
Science
This term the children will be learning about growing seeds and bulbs. They will look at the inside of a seed and bulb. The children will look at the difference between seeds and bulbs. They will grow plants from seeds and bulbs and observe how they germinate. They will complete an investigation observing what seeds need to germinate. The children will look at whether bigger seeds grow into bigger mature plants.
History
Our History topic is all about transport and travel. The children will put modes of transport in the correct order on a timeline. They will find out about how George Stephenson invented the steam trains. The children will find out about how cars were changed since they have been invented. They will discuss the Wright brothers and the invention of the aeroplane. Finally they will design their own future mode of transport.
Art
The children's topic focuses on the artist Yayoi Kusama. They will learn about the artist and experiment with different techniques for creating polka dots. The children will recreate a piece of artwork using collage. They will create a 3D form from clay and use paint to create a painting in the style of Yayoi Kusama's pumpkins.
Computing
The children will be learning about spreadsheets using Purple Mash.
PSHE
The topic is called being safe. They will learn about issues of safety around medicines and their use. They will learn about dealing with unsafe situations and who they can ask for help. The children will discuss situations in which they would need to say yes, no, I'll ask or I'll tell. They will discuss who they can talk to if someone touches them in a way that makes them uncomfortable. They will discuss the importance of telling someone a secret that makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
Music
The topic this half term will focus on recognising and exploring musical mood.
