Foundation Subjects

Spring Term One

Science

In Science this term in Year One we are continuing our learning about materials. We will be looking at and naming materials and completing investigations into the properties of various materials. We will discuss how the same objects can be made from different materials and how they are suitable for different uses depending on their properties.

In Year Two we will be learning about growing seeds and bulbs. We will look closely at both and observe the differences in them. We will observe germination and investigate what seeds and bulbs need to grow and thrive.

History

In history Year One, we will be learning about Toys and how they have changed over time. We will focus on construction toys and teddy bears. We will observe and discuss what has changed over the last hundred years and how the toys of the past helped to shape toys today.

For Year Two, history will be about travel and transport. We will look at a range of modes of transport, including cars, planes and trains. We will learn about the inventors and their lives and create timelines to show when key events happened, e.g. The first successful flight by the Wright brothers.  At the end of the topic the children will design their own transport for the future!

Art

Our art this term is a study of the artist Yayoi Kusama. We will experiment with different techniques to create polka dots and recreate her work using a range of media, including clay and paint.
