Day One – The Journey Begins!

We departed Whitwell Primary promptly, well almost – we were stopped before the end of Southfield Lane by a nice lady waving a damp 'Leavers' hoody at us!  It was a full 32 minutes before someone asked if we were there yet – not too bad to be honest.  We arrived in Portsmouth at 2:00ish having hit a couple road-works on the way.

The feathered locals were very complimentary of the children’s packed dinner, which I’m sure the parents will be happy to hear.  After fighting the gulls on the beaches, we made our way to D-Day Museum which was fascinating.  We came face to face with a Sherman tank and shot imaginary Messerschmitts with the AA guns – I only tell you this because the children will tell you about the landing-craft toilets and the mould in the sinks.

After visiting the museum, we made our way across The Solent.  There was some confusion as to what the coach would be doing now, as clearly a coach going on the ferry was out of the question!  Impossible! The children were ready to send the driver home and carry their bags the rest of the way.  Luckily, the coach did fit inside Faith (the ferry) and we were at sea!

We arrived on the Isle of Wight with the sun beaming; the holiday could really begin! Tea was a well-received plate of hot-dogs and chips, and Oreo ice-creams too.

We walked to the beach for an evening constitutional, however some children had miss read the dress code and were ready for a disco in Majorca.  Showered (I hope) and full of sugar, the children are in bed now, no doubt talking about today’s adventures and anticipating what’s to come tomorrow.
