Summer Term 2 Topic

Science

This term the topic focus is plants. As scientists children will investigate what mature plants need to be healthy.

  • The children will learn to identify healthy and unhealthy plants.
  • They will learn the life cycle of a plant.
  • They will learn how different plants are suited to different environments.
  • They will observe over time how mature plants grow in different conditions.

Geography

As geographers we will compare hot and cold places in the world.

  • The children will use maps to locate hot and cold places in the world and look at how this relates to the equator.
  • They will learn how animals are adapted to different environments.
  • The children will research Arctic explorers and find out what life was like them living in the South Pole. 
  • They will learn the difference between climate and weather.

DT

As designers the children will learn to make a moving vehicle.

  • They will investigate different vehicles and look at their features.
  • They will investigate wheels, axles and chassis.
  • They will investigate how to design and make the body of the vehicle.
  • The children will design, make and evaluate their own moving vehicle.

Computing

The children will be learning to present ideas on Purple Mash. They will learn to present ideas in the form of a quiz, present a story, make a non-fiction fact file and a presentation.

PSHE

The topic is called growing and changing.

  • They will learn about how we can give positive feedback to others.
  • They will discuss emotions and how to manage these when someone moves away or they lose someone.
  • They will identify how humans change as they grow.
  • They will learn which body parts are private. 

Music

The topic this half term will continue to focus on recognising and exploring musical mood through the use of songs and instruments.
