Spring Term 2 Topic in Year 2

Science

This term the topic focus is growing up looking at the life cycles of animals and humans. As scientists children will investigate the questions:

  • What are the 5 vertebrate animal groups?
  • How do animals change as they grow?
  • How can we sort food into groups?
  • How do humans stay clean?

Geography

As geographers we will be comparing the Amazon Rainforest to Sherwood Forest.

  • The children will locate the Amazon Rainforest and Sherwood Forest on a map.
  • They will learn about the climate in both places.
  • They will compare the plants that grow and the animals that live in Sherwood Forest and the Amazon Rainforest.
  • The children will discuss the issue of deforestation and how this affects the Amazon Rainforest.

DT

As designers the children will learn to design and create their own puppet.

  • They will investigate different puppets and how they are made.
  • They will practise sewing techniques.
  • The children will design a puppet.
  • The children will use joining and sewing skills to create their puppet from felt.
  • The children will evaluate their puppet.

Computing

The children's topic will be all about creating pictures.  They will make different pictures based on the work of various artists using the features of 2paint on Purple Mash.

PSHE

The topic is called rights and respect.

  • They will describe and record strategies for getting on with others in the classroom.
  • They will use strategies for dealing with impulsive behaviour.
  • They will identify people in the school and community who can keep them safe.
  • They will think about the benefits and risks of the internet and ways to stay safe online.
  • They will learn about money and saving.

Music

The topic this half term will follow the Sparkyard curriculum.
