Curriculum Overview
Primary Curriculum
At Whitwell Primary School we aim to provide a stimulating curriculum which engages and interests children and develops the whole child, through experiences that encourage initiative, creativity and respect for others, enabling them to reach their potential in al aspect of school life.
Our curriculum is underpinned by our mission statement:
Believe, Endeavour, Succeed Together
We carefully plan our curriculum so that it is stimulating, creative and engaging; encouraging every child to really enjoy their learning, challenge themselves to achieve their best and thus gain a wide range of skills, knowledge and attributes.
The latest National Curriculum was introduced in September 2014. Its aims are that every state-funded school must offer a curriculum which is balanced and broadly based and which:
- Promotes the spiritual, moral cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at school and of society.
-
Prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
The National Curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge and skills that they need to be educated citizens. At Whitwell Primary we redesigned our curriculum to ensure we meet the requirements of the new curriculum, whilst maintaining our creative approach to teaching and learning. We have adopted a topic based curriculum which is planned over a 2-year cycle.
