PE
Physical Education – What We’re Learning This Term
As athletes, we are developing our skills, teamwork, and confidence through two dynamic units: Netball and Gymnastics. These lessons are designed to build strength, coordination, and resilience while having fun and staying active.
Netball
As team players, we are learning the fast-paced, strategic game of netball. Children will develop key skills such as passing, shooting, and footwork, while understanding the importance of positioning and tactics. They’ll practice working as part of a team, communicating effectively, and making quick decisions during gameplay. By the end of the unit, pupils will take part in mini-matches, applying their skills in a competitive but supportive environment. This unit promotes teamwork, fairness, and perseverance—essential qualities both on and off the court.
Gymnastics
As gymnasts, we are exploring movement, balance, and control through gymnastics. Children will learn how to perform rolls, jumps, and balances with precision and creativity. They’ll work on sequencing movements to create routines that showcase strength and flexibility. Safety and technique are key, so pupils will also learn how to use apparatus correctly and support each other during practice. This unit encourages confidence, coordination, and self-expression—every child will have the chance to shine!
Why PE Matters
Physical Education isn’t just about fitness—it’s about building confidence, resilience, and teamwork. These skills help children thrive in all areas of life.
How You Can Support at Home
- Encourage active play and outdoor games.
- Watch netball matches together to discuss tactics.
- Practice simple balances or stretches at home.
- Celebrate effort and improvement, not just results.
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Monday will be in door PE or swimming for Year 6, depending on if your child has passed their 25m assessment. Outdoor PE for the whole class will be on a Thursday with Mrs Pegg.
Please ensure that your child wears their full PE kit for school on these days. This should consist of:
- plain black or blue shorts
- a plain white t-shirt
- plain black or blue joggers
- trainers to wear outdoors
- a plain blue or black hoodie or school jumper.
The children will be doing PE outside on a Friday, so please send them in warm clothing as the weather changes.
For indoor PE please ensure that the children have black or navy shorts or leggings on with a plain white t-shirt. For gymnastics, yoga and pilates children will have bare feet for safety.
All jewellery is to be removed for PE except newly pierced earrings, which must be taped with tape provided from home.
