Autumn Term 2 Topic in Year 2

Science
This term the topic focus is choosing materials. As scientists children will investigate:
- Materials and their uses
- The properties of different materials
- The durability of fabric
- Whether a material is suitable for a specific purpose
Geography
As geographers we will be learning about the weather in the UK.
- The children will learn about seasonal weather patterns in the UK.
- They will understand how the weather is measured.
- They will learn about weather symbols.
- The children will identify and describe extreme weather events.
- They will compare the weather near the coast to the weather inland.
DT
As designers the children will learn about fruit and vegetables.
- They will taste and describe different fruit and vegetables.
- They will design a recipe that includes fruits and/or vegetables.
- They will make their design following their recipe.
- The children will then evaluate what they have made.
Computing
The children's topic will be all about spreadsheets. They will use the tools of a spreadsheet to work with data.
PSHE
The topic is called valuing difference.
- They will learn about what make them who they are.
- They will discuss the special people to them.
- They will think about how they can make others feel.
- They will suggest strategies to help someone who is feeling left out.
- They will recognise and describe acts of kindness.
Music
The topic this half term will focus on the songs that we will be learning for our Christmas show.
