Whitwell Primary School opened its doors on September 1st 1984 after the amalgamation of two separate schools; Whitwell Infant School and Whitwell Junior School (now the village library and community centre). The Nursery opened in November 1988 making the school able to cater for children from 3 to 11 years.

 

At present, there are 294 children in school, including Nursery and the maximum number of children that could be admitted in a school year in each year group is 40 children from Reception to Year 6 and 52 in Nursery.

 

Currently, 2016-17, the children are organised into 10 classes. Two Early Years Foundation classes (Nursery and Reception), three Key Stage 1 classes (Reception/Year 1, Y1/Y2 and Year 2), and five Key Stage 2 classes (two Year 3/4, Year 4/5 and two Year 5/6).
