Reading

Reading is an important skill for all children to develop. In school we start teaching them about reading from an early age using phonics, guided reading and individual reading books that are matched to their ability. The books your child brings home should be simple enough for them to read without much sounding out. It should not be too challenging and they should be able to answer questions about what they have read to show their understanding. If possible, please listen to your child read at least twice a week and record this in their diaries. The children get Wellians for every time they read at home which they can save for a treat.

Homework

Our main piece of homework will be spellings. They will be sent home in a book every Friday and this book should be returned to school every Friday for a new list to be given. The words your child is given are from the new National Curriculum for Year 1 and from the guidance for the Foundation stage for FS2. We will also send home maths that will help your child practise the skills they have been learning in class.

Please make use of our school subscription to Education City using your child's individual login details.

Our day starts at 8.45 and finishes at 3.10. If you arrive late please use the main entrance and ensure the office staff know your child has arrived.
