Reading

We have a daily phonics session using Read, Write, Inc. We are learning our sounds and are blending them

together to read simple words. We are also learning some common irregular words.

We follow the Oxford Reading Tree scheme for our reading books. We aim to change your child's reading book once or twice a week after we have listened to them read.

You can help by listening to your child read at least 3 times a week and by talking to them about their book to make sure they are understanding what they have read.

Read stories that they are familiar with and explore the meanings of new words.

Please ensure your child's reading book is in school every day.

Writing

We are practising the skills we are learning in Read, Write, Inc. in our writing. We are working hard on using our letters to write simple words correctly and we are having a go at writing some tricky words by using the sounds we can hear. We are also beginning to write some short sentences.

We are learning how to form our letters correctly - sitting our letters on a line, making tall letters tall and making our fishing letters go under the line.

You can help by providing opportunities for your child to write - every bit of practice is good smiley.
