Please support your child to become a good reader by using the following strategies:

 

Background information

I can use my treasure chest of memories to help me understand the text.

 

Summarise

I can give you the ‘gist’ of what I have read.

 

Breakdown and Repair

I can break down a word into its sounds to help me read it.

 

Clarify

I can cut the word out, read on a bit and then see if it makes sense.

 

Predict

I can consider what will happen next in the text from what I have read.

 

Inference

I can find a true meaning of the text using all of my reading skills.

 

Visualise

I can make pictures in my head as I read.

 

Ask questions

I can ask questions about the text that I have read.

This term we will be studying balanced arguments and newspaper reports.
